I’m in Japan, Day 0: I’m in Chicago

I’m posting this while waiting to board a 13 hour flight to the other side of the world, again.

When I went to Norway last year, I had every intent to create a travelogue of sorts out of my experience. I kept a diary and took extensive notes and photos with that in mind. On returning I quickly churned out one of the longest, most introspective pieces I’d ever written. Unfortunately, I was reading a collection of Basho’s travel writing at the time, and I blame his influence for my attempt at my own story landing somewhere between leaden and pretentious. It’s still not at a state I’d feel satisfied publishing.

As penance, for my second annual international trip, I’m taking the exact opposite tack. In the spirit of the “just post something dude, literally anything” attitude with which I initially started this blog, my goal is to provide a daily update of what I’ve been up to and what you’ve been missing out on. No editing, no navel gazing. If the Norway piece is a travelogue, this will be little more than an itinerary.

Will I be able to keep it up? All evidence points to no! I clearly cannot be trusted to follow through. Just know that I really wanted to. Just like I really wanted to share my time in Norway. I promise I’ll finish that when I get back.

Anyway, I’m about to time travel. Day 0 is 2 days long.
